To whom this may concern,
I am fed up with Facebook – its “wokeness,” it’s censoring of my posts for ridiculous reasons, my inability to see my friends’ posts, versus pages that I do not follow, the irrelevant ads that pop up in my feeds. And the endless “fact-checking” of information that they say is false when it’s true. There are plenty of reasons why I am done with the platform, but today was unknowingly the straw that broke the camel’s back – I was locked out of my account for the fourth time this year over “security” reasons.
In a case of irony, my Instagram account was hacked last year. All my pictures, posts, etc. were gone to some random hacker. I tried to get IG (which is owned by Facebook) to help… nothing. So my IG account was still linked to my Facebook account and I tried to reach out to Facebook about it. Again, no help whatsoever. I even tried to reach out to their social media platforms for help from them. Again, no answer. So, I cut my losses and started a new IG account, but I made sure that all my accounts had a protocol called “2FA,” which is supposed to add another layer of security to my logins. That all happened towards the end of 2020.
This year, I got one breach, but because of the 2FA it didn’t go anywhere. I just changed my password to keep it that much more secure. Later that same month, I signed up for a password-locker type of service called “Last Pass.” That seemed to work even moreso, as I switched from my known passwords to ones that were generated by the app. So with LastPass supplying my passwords and having an extra layer of security in place, you would think my problems would go away.
You would be wrong.
Since that January, I’ve had “breaches” in my Facebook account for another three times (including today), versus the 10 years prior where I had no such incidents. No other accounts had this issue – only Facebook.
That, and with Facebook continually censoring my posts over “safety and security” reasons, I have grown livid with the platform. They have become the “Too Big To Fail” company that seems to just roll over people with whatever agenda they wish to push.
And I know that may make me sound like a conspirator right-wing nut job, but so be it, dammit! When I’ve seen it happen to others as well – with the censoring of posts and “lockouts,” It’s no longer a “me” problem – it’s one with the app. Bottom line: I am done with this platform.
Because I have apps tied to this platform and friends on here that I don’t have a means of contacting otherwise, it’ll probably take me the rest of the year to tie up loose ends and close down all that I won’t be using. It’s a sad era, as much of my social media life has been on Facebook. It has pissed me off at times with updates and changes, but I’ve been able to make it work. They’ve gone way too far now, and I must leave while I have control over the things I think I have control over.
If you want to keep in touch with me, I’ll make a means to do so shortly. So keep following this blog and my other social media channels. Until then, I’ll catch up with you later.
